Akvo Foundation, The Team, c/o Peter van der Linde, International Water House, Bezuidenhoutseweg 2, 2594 AV The Hague, The Netherlands

Dear Mr. van der Linde:

It is our very great pleasure to present your team with the original artwork herewith enclosed, a gift of The Blossom Project.

The purpose of the Blossom Project is to inspire people to do their best to serve the needs of global community, as defined by the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations. The enclosed watercolour painting is one of 19 we are sending out as gifts to individuals or groups able to bring about positive change in the world.

Each painting is a token of acknowledgement for work already done. Each is a gesture of encouragement for work that may yet be undertaken in the future.

Specifically, we wish to acknowledge your creation of open source software solutions that make development projects more efficient, sustainable and visible. Akvo.org gives grassroots projects in Africa and elsewhere direct access to potential donor-investors. Your Really Simple Reporting framework gives local project teams a means of accounting for funding without taking resources from the project itself.

We encourage you to continue developing open source tools that bridge the digital divide, especially in mobile phone-based frameworks that are so important to rural people.

The enclosures provide background on The Blossom Project, the paintings, the recipients, the Millennium Development Goals, and ourselves.

All the information, including a copy of this letter, may be viewed online at www.theblossomproject.org. Should you chose to respond to us, you may do so directly on the website, by email at sunnymarlene@sasktel.net or by regular mail, address below. We would love to hear from you!

sincerely yours,

Marlene Yuzak and Allan Casey

  1. Dear Allan and Marlene

Thank you and the Blossom Project so very much for honouring us with a gift of artwork. We were surprised and delighted to find out about this unanticipated acknowledgement of the value of our work. It’s very gratifying to know that you clearly “get it” – not everyone does initially!

Having had a look around your site, can I say how great I think what you’re doing is! What a wonderful, generous and inspiring idea. We feel truly honoured to have been picked out of an infinite number of individuals and organisations doing important stuff around the world. So, thank you. Your gift is greatly appreciated. Looking forward very much to seeing the artwork when it arrives.

    Thanks and best wishes
